Avon Product's Ecofriendly Initiatives and Stock Price
- Avon Product's Ecofriendly Initiatives and Stock Price
The Hello Green Tomorrow is an ecofriendly program started by Avon Products. Its goal is to empower a women's environmental movement, launching initially with Avon's donation to replant one million trees in the Atlantic Rainforest in South America and global fundraising to further restore this vital ecosystem at just $1 per tree.
Avon Hello Green Tomorrow will focus on the restoration of the South American Atlantic Rainforest, which is one of the tropical forests that serve as the "lungs of the earth" and, with only 7% remaining, one of the most threatened ecosystems. All trees planted in the Atlantic Rainforest through Hello Green Tomorrow support the United Nations Environment Program Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign.
The company also announced the Avon Paper Promise, a comprehensive policy outlining efforts and goals for promoting sustainable forest use, protecting forests, and reducing demands on forests. Avon's goal is to purchase 100% of its paper from certified and or post consumer recycled content sources within ten years, with a certification preference of Forest Stewardship Council.

AVP's US and International Home Pages & Intercultural Business Communication
AVP's US and International Home Pages
The first thing that pops out of the US homepage for Avon Products is the pink, pink, pink! But overall, the US homepage focuses on 3 very main aspects of AVP. Those aspects are finding a representative, selling Avon and buying online. So all in just the first view, online viewers get to see customizes their beauty by finding their own personal representative, there’s exposure to the business opportunity available to women, and the convenience of online shopping. There is a link for Spanish customers to have the site translated into Spanish. At the bottom of the page there’s a link “Choose a country” which leads to the AVP international homepage. One that homepage, we once again see our favorite color, pink! The part of this homepage that stands out to me is the mission statement. I wish that the US homepage also included a big bold and beautiful look at the company’s mission statement. There are also links to choose which country and that country’s particular website. International homepage also includes links to the company’s history, corporate responsibility report and awards and recognitions. From my point of view, I think the international page is more geared for people who have never known about Avon and are new to the products being available in their country where as the US page is more direct to people who are familiar with Avon and either want to sell it, buy it, or find the closest person in their area to it do!

Intercultural Business Communication
“Intercultural communication occurs when people of diverse ethnic backgrounds discuss ideas and tasks in a language other than their native tongue.” (Michelle, 2011) This particular article broke down just what intercultural communication is under 5 subtitles. First, keep it simple is basically something that is essential by using clear, simply language and getting into the habit of repeating important points in different ways. Next, understanding that power of hierarchy is very different in other countries. So, finding a common ground in this area is crucial. Third, having a broad and knowledgeable view of the country’s particular culture and fourth, understanding basic greetings in the language like a simple “Hello, how are you?” in the language shows respect. Finally, following up on tasks and projects is mandatory for cultural differences in business process. “Successful intercultural communication is effective, frequent, and simple while also respecting the cultural viewpoints of all participants.” (Michelle, 2011)

Avon: What is the company doing?
Last year, Avon Products Inc.’s (AVP) saw a big change. Sheri McCoy became CEO of the company. Within the first year as the company new spear header, McCoy hit the road, meeting with thousands of representatives, and even some former sellers, to hear what the door-to-door cosmetics seller could do better for the future. After her eye opening road trip, she decided what really is going on in the company. Her strategy includes embracing technology with mobile applications and putting brochures online, while adding more profitable home and fashion products to boost earnings using the company’s more than 6 million sales representatives. McCoy is cutting about 1,500 jobs and leaving the South Korea and Vietnam markets as part of a plan to save $400 million by the end of 2015. Other priorities also include an investment of as much as $200 million in information technology systems by 2016 and updating and repositioning brands such as its “Anew anti-aging line.” As far as the different influences of the stock prices, BMO Capital Markets reaffirmed the company’s outperform rating on shares of Avon Products (NYSE: AVP) in a research note released on Wednesday, Feb 20, 2012. They currently have a $25.00 price target on the stock, up from their previous price target of $23.00.
